Bill Cosby's list has just gotten longer. After suing seven women for defamation, he is now going after Beverly Johnson for what his legal counsel described as "false, malicious, opportunistic and defamatory" accusations.
In a tweeted statement, Cosby's attorney Monique Pressley wrote, "Mr. Cosby states that he has never drugged defendant and her story is a lie. The suit further states that defendant's entirely fabricated accusations are nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to resuscitate her own career and benefit herself financially from the wave of media attention surrounding her false allegations against Mr. Cosby, including the use of attention as a basis to generate interest in, and promote sales, of her published memoir."
The statement also stated that Johnson is "no stranger to making salacious public allegations." For the "infliction of emotional distress," Cosby requested to be awarded "compensatory and punitive damages" along with the removal of the chapter about him in unsold copies of Johnson's memoir. Cosby also asked for a public apology from the supermodel.
However, Johnson remains unfazed. She is willing to put up a fight and even encouraged all of Cosby's alleged rape victims for support. "I am aware of the statements from Bill Cosby. In cases of rape and abuse, abusers will do whatever they can to intimidate and weaken their victims to force them to stop fighting. I ask for your support of all of the victims involved," the 62-year-old supermodel told People.
In December last year, Johnson came forward to the media and revealed that she is among the women that Cosby allegedly raped. She confessed that she had been drugged by the comedian in the mid-1980s when she met him for an audition.
Other women who accused Bill Cosby of rape include Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie.
