If the whole of London's skyline can be casted into chessboard pieces, then what could stop some creative Americans from imagining the iconic "State of Liberty" as a luxury condo apartment building.
Animal New York, a popular internet publication, went ahead to re-imagine Lady Liberty as a condo apartment and even hypothesized how much it would take to convert the statue into a luxury apartment.
The feature on Animal New York describes the "Statue of Liberty" condo as a typical listing would. The feature notes that the Liberty condominium complex would provide for the utmost privacy and security.
There would be a penthouse on the crown of the statue with "360 degree views" of the Big Apple. The base of the statue will have chic restaurants and retail space.
They folks at Animal New York also put down some big numbers - a cost analysis that would make the statue of liberty a high-end condo apartment - with the help of real estate agent Dave Towns, the man who created the "Broker Maps" app.
Below are some specs:
- Renovations would cost about $300 million
- The penthouse would be priced at $240 million
- There would be 15 floors with a total of 24 luxury units
- A two-bedroom unit would cost $14.8 million
- A one-bedroom would cost $9.62 million
- A micro-unit would cost $3.7 million

The idea of converting the "Statue of Liberty" into a luxury condo emerged from the fact that condos are such hot property in New York City right now. Condo prices in Manhattan kept rising and though the pace of sales declined, they were still selling out fast, according to a Douglas Elliman report.
"We are selling apartments left, right and center. It is a very strong market for everything that is properly priced," Hall F. Willkie, president of Brown Harris Stevens, told The Wall Street Journal in a previous interview.
Experts see this as an indicator of strength and believe that the condo market of the city is entering a more stable phase now.
