Alejandro De Aza is going to have a $5.75 million with incentives which can make the one-year deal a total of $7 million. This is according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
Outfielder De Aza, has been able to play for five different teams over the past eight years of his career, which most of it was spent being an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox. He is known as the left-handed hitter that spent time in the three outfield positions for most of his career. De Aza was shown a little speed, compiling 86 stolen bases and 30 triples over his career.
But the New York Mets will more likely to place De Aza as a platoon partner in the center field for Juan Lagares. De Aza is reported to have an impressive .278/.351/.448 (117 wRC+) versus right-handed during the last season, and he has successfully hit them very well. This stat will go along well with Lagares' 112 career wRC+ versus the left-handed pitching.
However, De Aza does not appear to come without any notable concerns. While he used to assume full time the job in the play center field in Chicago, he was removed from this position by Adam Eaton and was not able to play there a lot for the past two seasons, Baseball Reference reported.
Being said that, De Aza has to give an average defense in the center field in order to make the platoon partnership with Lagares become effective. Meantime, some reports stated that the Mets has grown less interested over Gerardo Parra once it became official that he is demanding a 3 to 4 year deal and hesitated over Denard Span when Scott Boras asked a 2-year deal.
Alejandro De Aza started to become a candidate last week when the Mets lost their interest over Span and Parra. With the news about the $7 million deal, nothing seems surprising. De Aza is going to play for his sixth new team, MetsMerizedOnline reported.
