‘Super Mario Galaxy’ News: Game Will Be Available on Wii U Tomorrow, Nintendo Website Confirms

Avid fans and die-hard gamers of the popular video game "Super Mario Galaxy" have something to celebrate. Game developer Nintendo has confirmed that the title will be officially launched today, Dec. 24, for Wii U. It was said that the game will be sold for $20 and players can purchase the game via Virtual Console eShop, a report from Gamespot said.

According to the report, the company has yet to issue an official statement announcing or confirming the game's release date. It can be recalled that the game's Wii U version was reported earlier this month via the ESRB rating.

Polygon reports that "the re-release was suggested by a recent ESRB listing for a Wii U version of Super Mario Galaxy." It was said that the  Wii original owners can play the video game on Wii U through a backward compatibility feature.

Listed below are the game's features, according to Nintendo.

  • "Fire Koopa Clown Car: This volcanic vessel is capable of shooting fireballs as well as a powerful charged shot that can even destroy Blocks. It's perfect for creating shoot-'em-up-style courses.
  • P Warp Doors: Unlike regular Warp Doors, these are only visible while a P Switch is active - perfect for creating truly devious Ghost House courses.
  • Bumper: This bouncy donut-shaped object sends Mario bounding away when touched.
  • World Records: Now pages will display the World Record for each course uploaded, displaying the fastest clear time.
  • Super Mario Maker Bookmark: Levels that players have bookmarked to play later using the Web portal will be accessible from the Course World tab."

"Super Mario Galaxy will be available for Wii U through the system's Virtual Console. That's different from its sequel, 2010's Super Mario Galaxy 2, which was ported over as a native Wii U title and released on the Nintendo eShop this past January. Wii U Virtual Console games support some of the Wii U's built-in features, such as off-TV play on the GamePad. However, the Wii U port of Super Mario Galaxy 2 requires a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, just like the original game did, so it's unclear if the Virtual Console version of Super Mario Galaxy will work with the GamePad alone," the report said.
