As expected, the premiere of "The Walking Dead" Season 5 went off to a rousing start before worldwide audiences.
Titled "No Sanctuary," the first episode picked up directly after the shocking events that occurred in the Season 4 finale, reports The International Business Times.
It was clear that the Terminus residents were indeed cannibals. A video trailer of the first four minutes of the episode, released by AMC one day before the Season 5 premiere, already confirmed that to viewers.
The International Business Times notes that the trailer gave viewers "potentially the most disturbing scene in the history of the AMC series - a human being getting chopped into pieces with an electric tool. Next to the table full of instruments are huge bins aptly labelled 'Burn,' 'Feed,' and 'Wash.'"
A Good Day for Rick's Group
The Season 4 finale foretold of an ominous ending for most of Rick's group at the Terminus, with the exception of Beth, Carol, Tyreese and Baby Judith.
Viewers were put on edges in the early going of the Season 5 premiere as the Terminus residents, known as Termites, lined up eight of their prisoners on death row, including Rick, Daryl and Glenn. The execution MO is through a blow to the head by a bat and a subsequent cut of the knife on the throat.
Things were put on hold when it was already Glenn's turn with the bat. Somehow, Rick and company found a way to extricate themselves from the sticky situation.
With the help of Carol from the outside, who camouflaged herself with a "walker look and smell" and a whole lot of oncoming walkers, Rick's group was able to turn things around and put the clamps on the Terminus residents.
Just before Rick and company go out of the Terminus, they have a fleeting gunbattle with the remaining residents of the so-called sanctuary. Rick even wounded Gareth, the Terminus leader, who retreated with what remains of his group as the walkers swamp the place.
Carol and Rick's group eventually saw each other outside of the Terminus, much to the delight of Daryl, who hugged their saviour tightly. Rick likewise hugged Carol that officially put behind Rick's previous act of banishing Carol from their group.
Meanwhile, Tyreese who was left by Carol to care for Baby Judith, also had some anxious moments during the episode as his captive Termite attempted to escape by threatening to break the neck of the infant.
He was forced out of a wooden cabin where a flock of hungry walkers eagerly await outside. Following major noises that were followed by an eerie silence, Tyreese stormed back via the front door and subdued the Termite.
The episode concluded as Rick's group were united with Baby Judith and Tyreese as they prepare for a return to the Terminus to finish off what remains of it.
As they pass one of the signs for Terminus, Rick puts "NO" above the word "sanctuary."
After the credits, a mask-wearing man appeared on the same sign. He turned out to be Morgan Jones (Lennie James). Jones appeared in only two episodes of the show but he is obviously returning for Season 5.
