'Avatar' 2 Updates: James Cameron Confirms Sequel Will Be Released Christmas 2017; What Caused The Delay?

"Avatar" is known as the top grossing movie for all time and with that, fans are expecting so much for its sequel. It has been six years already since "Avatar" broke blockbuster record. The success of the first instalment was tremendous that is why a lot are looking forward for its sequel. According to Montreal Gazette, James Cameron, the man behind "Avatar," is working on three sequels.

And to add more to that, the Canadian filmmaker just recently confirmed that "Avatar 2" is set to be released in December 2017. Cameron said, "Christmas of '17 is the target. At least, that's what we've announced. But I don't consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story."

Cameron also pointed out that the design is almost done which is a huge workload for everyone. As Cameron said, "It's been about a two-year task. (We've finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we're really poised to start after the first of the year."

It has been reported that the "Avatar 2" was previously scheduled to be released in Christmas 2016. But then, the whole team had a problem with the script in order to connect it accordingly with three big films. That is why Cameron decided to move it to December 2017.

According to Parent Herald, Cameron and his production team have been working so hard in designing the upcoming "Avatar 2" for the past two years. It has been reported that "Avatar 2" is part of the trilogy with "Avatar 3" which is set to be out in 2018 and "Avatar 4" will follow a year after.

Back in January, James told The Variety that "We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that," he then added, "And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."

Entertainment Weekly shared that Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang will all be back for the sequel.

The journey to making all the "Avatar" films is not easy but James and his team are on it to make sure that it will still be a big hit as the first instalment.
