The live-action "Power Rangers" motion picture is still underway and has a slated January 13, 2017 release. The franchise has been kept alive in several TV series iterations since its launched in 1993 and will be released as a movie with a rumored mature yet playful plot this time around.
The level of violence that will be featured in the film is one of the questions looming around the "Power Rangers" Reboot as reported by Cheat Sheet. It is being compared with fellow children show's like "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" which both were adapted into movies. Both films were also treated maturely with darker and grittier plots compared to the original TV show.
Saban Brands and Lionsgate will most likely sticking with a mature yet still playful plot for the movie reboot. The two companies working for the realization of the "Power Rangers" movie have already expressed their displeasure over the 14-minute short film created by Joseph Kahn that was released in YouTube earlier this year. The explicit video adaptation was a far cry from the original series with drug use and violence depicted in the film, thus resulting to several attempts to take down the video online.
Dean Israelite, the director tapped to lead the "Power Rangers" reboot, is known for this PG-13 movie Project Almanac, creating speculations that the movie will not stray past the PG-13 threshold.
Although Christian Post speculates that the new film will be violent enough to get an R-rating. Saban Brands and Lionsgate however stated in that report that the movie will be "mature" but will live up to the series and its playful tone.
Casts confirmed for the "Power Rangers" movie reboot include Becky Gomez, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, and Naomi Scoot. Chloe Grace Moretz from "Kick Ass" and "Taken" lead star Liam Neeson are also rumored to be playing roles in the film.
A slated January 13, 2017 premiere is expected for the "Power Rangers" movie.
