'Doctor Who' News: Peter Capaldi and EP Steven Moffat to Bid Goodbye to Doctor Who?

The Christmas episode of "Doctor Who" has left the audience in awe because of River Song's comeback. But perhaps fans of the series would be more shocked by the news that the 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, might not be reprising his role after next season.

In an interview with Telegraph, the actor reveals that this may be his last time to play the time travelling character. He has mixed emotions about having to leave the series but he also recognizes the opportunity to not be limited to the role anymore. He says, "I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye."

The previous actors who played Doctor Who like David Tennant and Matt Smith finished three seasons, so it is possible that Capaldi's run will end soon.

Aside from Peter Capaldi, executive producer Steven Moffat is also rumored to leave the show soon. But he confirms that he will do at least one more season. The EP has been running the show for 7 years so this would certainly cause a big change. During his interview with Radio Times he admitted that he has been engaged in the talks of who would take his spot, but right now he takes it one year at a time.

As for its 10th season, Moffat assures the fans that they are getting the best people to pen the story. He states,  "If I told you their names, your brain would explode... brilliant, prominent and amazing writers."
