'Counter Strike: Global Offensive' Sold More Copies On Steam Than 'Fallout 4' and 'GTA 5'

It's been a very competitive year for many video games in terms of sales and popularity but in 2015 Steam Game Sales, it looks like "Counter Strike: Global Offensive" has given the rest of the titles a "kill shot."

"Fallout 4" and "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" are just some of the titles that are deserving of the awards they got during the 2015 Game Awards with the latter hailed as the "Video Game of the Year." On the other hand, "Counter Strike: Global Offensive" was awarded the title "Esports Game of the Year." Other game titles that were recognized are "Mortal Kombat X," "Super Mario Maker," "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" and "Rocket League" to name a few.

According to Hot Hardware, with the help of stats aggregator SteamSpy, and Medium and based on game activations on Steam racing game "Rocket League" sold twice as many copies as "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." It is understandable for many to then think "Fallout 4" is the best-seller on Steam. Though "Fallout 4" did not receive any award at the 2015 Game Awards, it was nominated for titles like Best Soundtrack, Best Role Playing Game, and Game of the Year according to GameSpot.

To the surprise of everybody, what came out to be a best seller on Steam this year is "Counter Strike: Global Offensive," a title released three years ago, according to Hot Hardware. With the game occasionally offered on sale, for 2015 it reportedly sold about 5.6 million copies, it should be noted that this figure only includes April to December as SteamSpy only began tracking Steam activations in April.

Other games on the list, with some of them not released in 2015, are "Left 4 Dead 2," "Garry's Mod," "Terraria," "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim," "Borderlands 2," "ARK: Survival Evolved" and "Rocket League" each reportedly selling no less than 1 million copies.
