If there's ever a crossover among "Avengers" heroes, the last one you'd have in mind would be Iron Man in Captain America's movie. As seen in "The Avengers," the two of them just can't get along well.
According to Entertainment Weekly, their abrasive relationship is one of the best storylines in Marvel Comics, specifically from "Civil War" that pitted them against each other in the 2006-2007 epic crossover series.
With no plans of another "Iron Man" movie and Robert Downey Jr. reportedly done with the Iron Man character after "The Avengers 3," reports of the possible clash between both heroes being brought to the big screen has been creating waves.
According to Hollywood Reporter, however, both Marvel and CAA (Downey's agency) have not commented on the news, probably because RDJ's camp is still negotiating the paycheck. Sources for the website said that the actor is looking to get about $40 million, plus backend. Considering that he made more than $50 million for "The Avengers" movie, talks are understandably sensitive at this point.
Should the crossover happen in "Captain America 3" the heroes will be fighting in a storyline that involves their own brand of civil rights. As recapped by Deadline, Captain America and Iron Man have opposing views on the U.S. Government's Superhuman Registration Act, which require all superpowered individuals to register to SHIELD, ripping apart the superhero community in the process.
Of course, depending on how negotiations will go, the future of the Marvel Universe lies in the hands of RDJ's participation in the third "Captain America" film. In a reporty by Variety, "the introduction of the Civil War story is seen as a way to drive the plots of sequels and new franchises for the next seven years, given the dramatic possibilities it offers for future films. The fallout from the government and Stark's actions would factor into a new 'Avengers 4' film and beyond that will assemble new characters being introduced like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, among others, in their own movies."
"Captain America 3" will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (who also directed "The Winter Soldier") and is set to be released on May 6, 2016, while "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be in theaters May next year.
