"Game of Thrones" fans know that Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) doesn't want to be a queen. She wants to be the queen. That means that she'll do whatever she can to marry the king of the realm, not one of the pseudo-kings that are fighting to thwart the bastard child-king Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).
Fans of George R.R. Martin's novels already know what's going to happen, but for those who are yet to read the books, spoiler alert: Margaery marries Tommen Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman) next.
Hints of the next marriage has already been planted in the previous season, with Margaery visiting and charming Tommen in a scene.
Dormer spoke with E! Online regarding her character, saying that "Margaery is just trying to play the next, you know, round of cards with the ones she's been dealt, so it's a particularly awkward situation for her, and young Tommen as well, so she's just trying to befriend the kid."
To say that Tommen is a child should be taken literally, as noted by the International Business Times, considering that the character is only 12 years old in the books, but will probably be made slightly older in the series, as they did with most of the children.
That said, Dormer also spoke about playing the lover of a much younger character. She said, "It's very awkward as an actress being given that specification. It's not an easy thing to do."
If viewers are surprised about Margaery's fate, the actress shares their woe. Dormer herself can't prepare for what exactly is in store for her character. She shared, "I wasn't expecting to be alive still. But here I am, so I'm just navigating it the best I can and as delicately as I can, to be honest."
A lot of things will be happening in the fifth season, and as Dormer warned, "Things are getting pretty dark and damp and dingy right now."
Despite her character's failed marriages, Dormer is optimistic about Margaery's marital bliss. In an interview with Access Hollywood, published on Yahoo she said, "What do they say, third time lucky? Is Margaery gonna be third time lucky? Poor girl, she needs a break."
As to how the relationship between Margaery and Tommen will develop remains to be seen, but that is one of the many things to watch out for in the fifth season of HBO's hit series.
"Game of Thrones" Season 5 is set to premiere on HBO sometime in April 2015.
