Game developers Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have jointly announced that both companies are planning to release a new 2DS "Pokemon-themed" systems by 2016, a report from Gamespot said on Monday.
According to the report, the "Pokemon-theme" 2DS systems are expected to arrive on Feb. 27, 2016 which coincides to the "Pokemon" series' 20th anniversary. It was said that the new 2DS systems will feature a retro-look and it comes with a variety of colors namely: yellow, blue, green, and red.
"The 2DS systems also come with pre-installed copies of the games their colors correspond to. In addition, you also get special stickers, a code to download Mew for the latest Pokemon games, and more. There's no word as of yet regarding if these special-edition 2DS systems will launch in North America. Players can trade and battle their Pokemon wirelessly; this was not possible for the original games, which required a cable for multiplayer functionality. The new versions will launch on the eShop on February 27, which is the same day that Pokemon Red launched for GameBoy back in 1996 in Japan," the report said.
It can be recalled that back in November, Nintendo has previously confirmed that several iconic "Pokemon" games will make a big comeback next year. The company has cited that "Pokemon" Red, Blue and Yellow are expected to arrive on 3DS by February 2016.
"The systems will retail for 9,980yn (approx. US$82 at current rates). The Blue system will be exclusive to Japan's Pokémon Center stores, while the other colors will have general availability. A promotion was announced to coincide with the release that will give the Pokémon Mew to all owners of the VC games in Japan via a serial code. The codes will come with all versions of the game for the first year, while owners of the console bundle will also gain the ability to use Mew in the Virtual Console games," Nintendo World Report said.
