‘Castle’ Season 8 Cancellation: Fans Express Continued Disappointment At Castle and Beckett’s Storyline

"Castle" has experienced a drop in ratings ever since the ABC crime drama premiered its eighth season on TV. This led to countless cancellation rumors, especially after many fans expressed disappointment towards the show's storyline, specifically that between its lead characters, Richard Castle and Kate Beckett. Will Season 8 be its last?

"Castle" Season 8 may be the ABC police procedural drama's last on TV, Examiner.com explored this possibility. According to the outlet, rumors surrounding the show's future began even before the show aired its eighth season on TV.

As many fans and viewers remember, "Castle" was almost headed for the chopping block, as ABC delayed the announcement of the show's renewal for Season 8; add that to the fact that actress Stana Katic did not renew her contract immediately. Now, the same rumor plagues the show, as many fans continue to air their disappointment towards the show's storyline, and such disappointment is reflected in the show's ratings.

The outlet noted that showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter assured fans that there are still a lot of exciting episodes ahead. The showrunners, however, seemed to be open to the possibility that "Castle" Season 8 will be its last.

"The reality is that [the network execs] won't make that decision until very late. So our plan is just to tell a satisfying story and try to wrap up the season in an exciting way," Hawley said.

Meanwhile, Carter Matt reported that Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) may continue to keep their romance from the public, as Beckett continues to work on the LokSat mystery. Many fans expressed their disappointment that the show had to go in this direction.

"This story line is boring - the mortal sin of entertainment..." a user named Jim45 commented on the article.
