'X-Files' Reboot Spoilers & Premiere Date: Stars & Showrunner Tease Show's Plot & Storyline

Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are back in the new "X-Files" reboot in January, and the showrunners hinted what fans can expect in the new show.

International Business Times reports that showrunner Chris Carter and Anderson revealed in an interview that the show will have a new plot and storyline. Carter said that the two FBI agents will be looking into government secrets rather than looking for answers about the extraterrestrial species. Anderson revealed in that the show has a "familiar feel," but she added that it also feels like being in a "completely foreign land."

Anderson explained that this might be because things have changed so much since the original series in terms of political environment. She added that the show always had a political element to it as it tries to prove that the government is being dishonest about their findings on life in outer space.

Carter elaborated by saying that the country is now in a different place since the show ended in 2002, and he thinks that the show should be more political now and focus on exploring government conspiracies while sticking to the original theme.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports that the preview for the reboot shows some behind-the-scenes footages and interviews of the cast and crew of the show. Writer-director-executive producer Glen Morgan revealed that the show will be a "a combination of stand-alone episodes and mythology-builders."

Other cast members include "Community" star Joel McHale, Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Annabeth Gish, Annet Mahendru, Rhys Darby and Kumail Nanjiani. It was also reported that William B. Davis will return as the "Cigarette Smoking Man."

The show is set to have six new episodes which will start with a special two-night event. The first half is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 24, while the next half will air on Jan. 25.
