Rock Icon and Motorhead Frontman Lemmy Kilmster Dies at 70

Ian Fraser Kilmster better known as "Lemmy" died last Monday, Dec. 28 at the age of 70. The bad ass heavy metal bassist and frontman of iconic British rock band Motörhead died two days after being diagnosed with a very "aggressive" cancer.

The sad news of another music legend's death was announced via social media on Motörhead's official Facebook page. The news was delivered in a collective statement made by the band saying that the rock icon has been fighting a constant battle with serious health issues for during the past years. The band's statement described Lemmy's battle with his "extremely aggressive" cancer diagnosis as "short." The band encourages their fans to celebrate Lemmy's life and legacy by playing Motörhead, Hawkwind and generally all of Lemmy's music loud.

The Motörhead frontman has always been living and playing hard. He has greatly contributed to the band's current position in the rock scene with akbums like "Ace of Spades", "Overkill" and "Iron Fist." Their influence over todays rock music will forever be recognized being the godfathers of thrash and speed metal.

In recent years, the band has been declining and cancelling tours because of Klimster's health problems, diabetes among others. Ironically, earlier this year, Klimster even made a joke about his health conditions highlighting his better choices in his drinks. He says he changed from regularly drink Jack Daniels and Coke, he goes with a healthier alternative, orange juice and vodka. He reassures his fans by saying, " Apparently, I am indestructable."

Lemmy lived a rockstar life without getting married and was lucky enough to witness up close the milestones of the rock era. He saw the Beatles perform in Liverpool when he was 18 years old. He also spent six months working as a roadie for the late Jimi Hendrix. He then joined Hawkwind in 1971.

After being kicked out from Hawkwind for amphetamine abuse, he created Motörhead in 1975. The rest was history.
