Big Ticket Sales in New York City Real Estate

The 2015 is ending and here is a look back at New York City real estate's biggest transactions.

According to NY Times, back in January 2015, the sale of a duplex at the top of One57 broke records when it sold for $100,471,452.77 to an unnamed buyer. Moreover not only was the sale was considered the most expensive sale of the week, it also became known to be the highest price ever paid for a single residence in the City of New York. One57 is the glasslike skyscraper at the heart of the city with unequalled, breathtaking views of Central Park, the Hudson and East Rivers.

Another record breaking sale in New York City happened in Spring. Back in April, NY Times reported the sale of Fifth Avenue duplex, previously owned by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, to Ukrainian-born billionaire Leonard Blavatnik for $77,500,000. The duplex, No. 1112A, is a five-bedroom five-and-a-half-bath apartment situated on the 11th and 12th floors of the 16-story limestone-covered building on the corner of East 64th Street.

Brooklyn also caught up with a new record as Brooklyn real estate has also become interesting lately. A big brick townhouse in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn is June was reportedly sold to photographer Jay Maisel for $15.5 million. City Records showed that it was the most expensive price ever paid for a single dwelling in the area. The said property was suitable as a home and a studio.

"We shattered just about every record that pre-existed," NY Times quotes Shaun Osher, the chief executive of the brokerage firm Core. "It was the year of the big sale."

Lastly, who could ever forget the sale at the 78th floor of the south tower of the Time Warner Center, in July? Russian financier Andrey Vavilov sold his full-floor penthouse to a mystery buyer for $50,917,500. The sale was the steepest price ever paid for a unit at Time Warner Center, according to CityRealty chief executive Daniel Levy. He noted, "The previous record was the same apartment six years ago."
