Sometime during the Take This livestream event that ran through December 29, BioShock creator Ken Levine shared a bit about his mysterious game that is currently in development.
According to GameSpot, Levine said that this game, which was then discovered to be in the first-person perspective, has been influence by very famous first-person games. To further elaborate, Levin said that BioShock creator's upcoming game has taken inspiration from major titles like "Dark Souls", "System Shock", "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor", "Civilization", and "Dying Light."
However, Levine advises his followers not to expect the mysterious game to appear like any of those titles. He then add that fans should rather expect his new title to be "in the realm of some of the earlier games that he worked on," according to GameSpot.
He also admits that this title that he is currently working on is not going to be an AAA game. The then proceeded to explain that it will be set in a small-scale open world and designed to be highly replayable.
In previous reports, in an appearance in The Game Informer Show Levine was seen talking about a previous project "System Shock" and what he thinks of its sequel that is currently in the hands of another developer. He reportedly wished "System Shock 3" well but he could not help but compare it with this mysterious title that he is working on. He said, "I'm so deeply involved in the themes of our new thing, our new game is a science-fiction game"
He then added, "It involves themes like artificial intelligence and what it means to be programmed, that you are a thing that was created by programming. That's a big theme in the new game. And how much agency you have outside of what you are as a piece of programming instructions. So I'm scratching a lot of those itches in the new game already. I don't really feel a need to go back to touch those characters again, in the same way that I didn't need to when I made BioShock. Say we would have gotten the rights to System Shock before we did BioShock, there wouldn't have been an Andrew Ryan, or Big Daddies, or Elizabeth... I do think it's important to move on and make different things in life."
