Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee answered the one question that's been boggling everyone's minds ever since Lemmy Kilmister's death: There is no Motorhead without Kilmister. Talking to Sweden's Expressen just a few hours after Lemmy's death on Monday, Dee said, "Motorhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motorhead."
"We won't be doing any more tours or anything. And there won't be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy live on in the hearts of everyone," Dee continued.
70-year-old Lemmy Kilmister passed away on Monday, December 28. Kilmister had a brief battle with "an extremely aggressive cancer," after being diagnosed just two days before his death.
As it turns out, Dee already noticed something off with Kilmister while they were on their European tour. Rolling Stone reports:
"Dee, who replaced Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor as Motorhead's dummer in 1991, also revealed that Kilmister appeared to be struggling health-wise on their recent European tour, yet the singer soldiered on. 'He was terribly gaunt, he spent all his energy onstage and afterwards he was very, very tired.' Dee said. 'It's incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable.'"
In spite of the heartbreaking events, Mikkey Dee still had nothing but good things to say about Kilmister: "It feels fantastic that we were able to complete the tour with him."
He added, "It's heartening that we didn't cancel because of Lemmy. I'm incredible grateful over the years we had, and that we had such a good time together."
Meanwhile, other celebrities and close friends of Lemmy Kilmister had paid tribute to the legendary rock star. The band's guitarist, Phil Campbell (who has been with Motorhead since the 1986 album "Orgasmatron") took to express his sentiments on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
"My dear friend and brother passed away yesterday. Life won't be the same. Thanks for all the well wishes. PLAY IT LOUD," he tweeted with a photo of them onstage together.
Matt Sorum, the drummer of Guns N' Roses, also posted an Instagram photo with Lemmy Kilmister. "Honored to have known this great man, under the tough exterior he was a kind and gentle soul, I loved him deeply," he wrote.
Lemmy Kilmister net worth was $10 million.
