"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" really did open up with a force. The seventh installment of the "Star Wars" saga has no doubt shattered every opening weekend box office record known to man. However, many are excited to know if the latest "Star Wars" will topple "Avatar" with its total box office revenue of $760 million.
"Star Wars: The Force Awaken" is being predicted to surpass the current record, celebrating New Year with a loud bang. The movie may easily surpass the box office record, especially it is a New Year weekend, Cinema Blend reported.
"Avatar" has been sitting on top since Dec. 2009. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has already gained over $571 million since Monday. It is predicted that it will be over the $600 million mark anytime soon. By the end of the week, it will just be the movie's third weekend, so there is plenty of time left for the latest chapter of "Star Wars."
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" gained an additional $39 million from its international release. It also allowed the movie to jump on the tenth spot for international top-grosser of all time. It currently has $1.16 billion under its belt, surpassing several movies that included "Transformers: Age of Extinction" - $1.1 billion, "Skyfall" - $1.11 billion, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"- $1.12 billion,"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" - $1.124 billion and "Minions" - $1.157 billion, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The movie has not made it to China yet, where it is said to be accumulating a huge number, which can propel "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to move on to the top of the international chart.
Currently, with the movie lined up to open in 2016, nothing seems to be large enough to draw some attention. However, by 2017 "Star Wars Episode VIII" and "Avatar 2" will come face to face
