Guy Ritchie's "King Arthur" movie will be released a year later, as revealed in the latest calendar issued by Warner Brothers.
Warner Brothers has moved the July 22, 2016 release of the "King Arthur" movie to Friday, February 17, 2017. According to Yahoo Singapore, the film was originally going against "Ice Age: Collision Course and "Star Trek: Beyond." Now with its new release date, it will be up against 20th Century Fox's "maze Runner: The Death Cure" and Sony's "Bad Boys 3."
Charlie Hunnam plays as lead, Arthur, for the film together with Jude Law, David Beckham, Djimon Hounsou, Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Eric Bana.
Cinema Blend reports that Warner Brothers seem to have sought for a clearer date for the "King Arthur" movie release. "Ice Age" has already achieved $2.8 billion for its four installments while the "Star Trek" reboot has grossed over $853.1 million, making it a very stiff competition for the film. Yet, with its new release date, it will be up against "The Maze Runner" with an impressive $312.1 million record earlier this 2015. "Bad Boys 3" on the other hand is scarce on updates beside the official announcement that it will be released on February 2017. Will Smith's return to the franchise is also not guaranteed.
However, Will Smith's earlier "Bad Boys" franchise has also an impressive record of $273 million from its 2003 film, but without Smith in the film, the film may not exactly attain the same success. Michael Bay, the original director of the series is also busy with the "Transformer" films, making it a less stellar movie to compete with the "King Arthur" movie as of the moment.
Originally slated to be released as "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur", the film began filming March 2015 and stars Charlie Hunnam. "King Arthur" movie release is now scheduled on February 17, 2017.
