The Phoenix Suns have announced that their lead scorer Eric Bledsoe will not be finishing the 2015-16 NBA season due to his recent surgery. He is scheduled for a torn meniscus repair in his left knee.
The Suns' 26-year-old point guard got the injury during their latest game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Coach Jeff Hornacek assumed that Bledsoe will remain on the sideline for an estimate of six weeks, Yahoo Sports reported. On the other hand, General Manager Ryan McDonough hopes for Bledsoe's fast recovery to immediately return to the season.
Bledsoe has played in the team's 31 games and has an average of 20.4 points and 6.1 assists per game this season. After being traded from the Los Angeles Clippers, Bledsoe has had an average of 17.9 points out of 155 games within three seasons with the Suns, NBA reported.
His current injury is his third identical knee injury in his six-year career in the NBA. He has first undergone surgery back in 2011 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, followed by a meniscus removal surgery in January of 2014.
Despite having missed 90 days worth of games after his 2014 injury, Bledsoe had a great total of 81 games and returned by having an average of 17 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game in the previous season. He then signed a five-year contract worth $70 million.
Bledsoe has been known to do a double point guard approach with Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas back in the 2013-14 season. When both Dragic and Thomas were traded off, the new point guard Brandon Knight took their place and teamed up with Bledsoe for another double-point guard approach this season.
With Bledsoe absent, rookie Devin Booker has taken his spot in the game. Still, Bledsoe's injury just brought sad news as the Phoenix sun has gotten five-consecutive loses recently.
