George Lucas' name will always be tagged with his masterpiece and brainchild, the Star Wars Saga, even if it already belongs to Disney. The movie creator, however, is determined to move on because he acknowledges that it is now in the hands of the film giant.
In his interview with Charlie Rose, Lucas shares his views towards Disney's take on the 7th Star Wars. Though he commended the movie during its premiere saying 'The Force Awakens' is 'the kind of movie the fans have been looking for,' he hinted his disapproval of director J.J. Abrams to make it reminiscent of the first Star Wars film ever. He explains, "They wanted to do a retro movie; I don't like that. Every movie, I work very hard to make them different. I make them completely different, with different planets and different spaceships, to make it new."
Though he has strong feelings about how he wanted the next movie to turn out, Lucas has chosen to distance himself from the production because he knows it would not do any good. He recognizes that he does not have the complete control over how the saga proceeds from the moment he had sold it to Disney. He deliberately prevented himself from meddling with the new crew, which he thought was not keen to involve him to begin with.
Lucas has earned $4 billion when Disney bought the franchise from him, but this does not make it easier for him to let go of his masterpiece. To him, the separation is like moving on from a marriage or a relationship. He shares, "It really does come down to a simple rule of life, which is, when you break up with somebody, the first rule is no phone calls. The second rule is you don't go over to their house and drive by to see what they're doing. The third rule is you don't show up at their coffee shop. You say 'No, gone, it's history, I'm moving forward.' ... You have to put it behind you, and it's a very hard thing to do."
