5 Top Interior Design Trends For 2016

There's really no right time to spruce up your house. But with the new year ahead, now is the best time to redo your house decorations to properly usher in the new beginnings that come with the new year.

Here are five interior design trends for 2016 that you might want to use:

1. French Country

Although we're seeing more minimalist designs over the past few years, French country was never out of style. Thanks to HGTV shows like "Fixer Upper," this design motif is making a major comeback - without it looking dated, thanks to a modern spin. Realty Times explains:

"Waxed and weathered paint on furniture, shiplap treatments, and accessories bearing the show's signature style are everywhere, and being assumed into all types of interiors to create a rich, eclectic look."

2. Pastel Colors

In case you haven't heard, Pantone's 2016 Color of the Year came as a big surprise to everyone, as the Color Institute two colors of the year for 2016: a baby pink Rose Quartz, along with the baby blue Serenity.

With the introduction of these two new hues, it's pretty expected that pastel colors are making a comeback in 2016. Incorporate pastels into wall colors, upholstery, or even by using it as an accent color through accessories.

3. Spruce it up with some glamour

Just because you have a family room, doesn't mean it has to be boring. Turn it up a notch by adding some glamour into the shared living space to give it a more updated look.

As House Beautiful says, "What's an immaculate aesthete to do with a dog around - or a Doritos-loving tween? Let her living room go? Hardly! Turn to hardworking-yet-fabulous fabrics paired with sexy silhouettes."

4. Mix in some metal

Metals have never gone out of style, although they've recently been taking the forefront in the last few years. Apparently, the trend for 2016 is mixing and matching different kinds of accessories with a metallic aesthetic: silver, gold, pewter, platinum, steel, copper, and rose gold!

5. Go Organic

It's important not to be too harsh when it comes to interior design. Add a refreshing and approachable yet natural vibe to a room by using organic shapes and textures.

Incorporate the concept into you dinnerware, or even in your furniture (like a wooden table!). It's all about having "undefined shapes and natural textures" around your home.
