Halloween 2014 just got better. The home that was used to shoot the "The Amityville Horror" - the 2005 remake of the 1979 film of the same name based on the true events that took place in the Long Island, New York village - has hit the market for $1.9 million.
The original Amityville murder house is located at 112 Ocean Avenue. But, replicas were used in all the "Amityville Horror" movies ever made. In 1981, a colonial-style house at 18 Brooks Road in Toms River, served as the shooting location for the original movie.
But after Hollywood caught a frenzy trying to shoot several sequels to the same Amityville murder story, the town adopted a law in 1982 prohibiting commercial filming in all residential zones because it became a nuisance to inhabitants, according to The Courier Post.
The 2005 "Amityville Horror" movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds, was shot in Silver Lake, Wisconsin. The production house spent about $60,000 to adapt the house to the screenplay and even got building permits to make alterations.
Currently, the home spans an area of 3,458 square feet and is comprised of seven bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The Victorian-style residence boasts of French windows, hardwood flooring and wooden staircases and high ceilings. Living spaces include several drawing areas, dining rooms and sitting spaces.
The home also offers a wrap-around porch, a removable pier, a boathouse (of course) and 400 feet of lake-front access. Anthony Wooden of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage is marketing the home. Check out some photos of the home here.
Rewind: A Little History
In 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered seven members of his family in his house claiming that the devil made him do it. He was arrested on account of the murders. A year later, a couple George and Kathy Lutz decided to buy the house and moved into the residence with their three children. The family abandoned the house along with its belongings after a mere 28 days in the residence, claiming they experienced horrid hauntings there.
Many locals have dismissed the story of the Lutz family saying they were just looking for publicity, but the Lutz maintained their stance on the evil that resided in the house.
Fast Forward: On the sets of "Amityville Horror" (2005)
While shooting for the 2005 movie, the star cast of "The Amityville Horror" did experience some supernatural things. According to MTV, Melissa George, who portrays Kathy Lutz in the movie, said she woke up at 3:15 am - the time Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his family - on the first day of shooting.
A week later, one night the security guard called up the director claiming that all the lights on the Amityville house set went on, but no one was found inside. The real Kathy Lutz also passed away during the movie's filming.
