Monique Pressley, the legal counsel of Bill Cosby who has been charged for sexual assault, has accused the district attorney of Montgomery County, Pa., Kevin Steele, of using her client for his own political agenda.
Pressley noted in a recent guesting on "Good Morning America" that the case has become a fulfillment of what appears to be a campaign promise coming from the prosecutor who only used the case to put himself into the office, Hawaii News Now shared.
Bill Cosby has been charged with sexual assault, which started from his encounter with a previous employee at Temple University in 2004. The first criminal charges were filed a few days just before the 12-year rule of limitations in the State of Pennsylvania ran out.
The case was definitely a controversial issue during the time when D.A. Bruce Castor and Steele were in a race. Castor back then, did not pursue any criminal charges against Cosby in 2005, who was later attacked by Steele for his failure to prosecute Cosby. According to Pressley, Castor's decision not to file any charges against her client has given a chance for a civil process wherein Cosby testified, believing that there will not be any criminal charges to be filed.
Pressley insisted that her client is innocent and that they are not thinking of any type of arrangement. She further described Steele as a D.A. who is merely keeping a campaign promise. As for Cosby's frail looking appearance at the courthouse on Wednesday, the attorney explained that given her client's age which is 78 and his blindness, it is only expected for him to use a cane when standing and walking, and to need some assistance. "But he is in high spirits. My client is confident about the ability of his legal team, that he will be given justice in this case," Pressley said, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
