"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder is one of the male actors in the running for Favorite Sci-Fi or Fantasy TV Actor at the 2016 People's Choice Awards.
According to Design N Trend, there is a huge chance that Somerhalder will win over his other competitors, namely, "Supernatural" actors Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins, "Jessica Jones" star David Tennant and "Outlander" star Sam Heughan.
The publication claimed that Somerhalder could win the coveted title because he has been giving life to the well-loved character Damon Salvatore for the past seven seasons on "The Vampire Diaries."
Damon was first introduced as a notorious vampire who will just kill anybody whenever he gets thirsty for blood.
The character was also known for being heartless, but throughout the years has evolved into becoming one of the most reliable friends on the show.
Additionally, when "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 returns to The CW next year, Damon will have an entire episode solely focused on his character.
Meanwhile, Damon was trapped inside the Phoenix Stone during the midseason finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries."
In an interview with Variety, the 37-year-old actor talked about the filming of his Civil War episode.
"What we've just started shooting such a departure (from what is expected of the show). I just started shooting episode 10, which is a concept episode. The episode was really about Damon, but that's not why I think it was the best at all. The way the story was put together... every artisan from set to producers to wardrobe to everyone was just so on-point," he said.
In other news, "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will also reveal Stefan's (Paul Wesley) fate after he was also trapped in the Phoenix Stone.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET.
