Boxing star Manny Pacquiao has announced that his fight with Timothy Bradley would be his final one.
The 37-year-old athlete told Philboxing.com that he would end his career in boxing soon. Pacquiao declares, "My April 9 fight against Timothy Bradley will be my last. I'm retiring from boxing to focus on my new job."
In another interview, he confirms, "I am retiring from boxing to concentrate on my political career. My fight with Timothy Bradley will be my last.
Apart from being a boxer, 'Pacman' is also a provincial congressman in the Philippines, and he is eyeing a seat in the senate come May 2016. He has been criticized for his poor attendance as a legislator but he assured voters that he this would completely change if he would get elected as a senator.
Pacman is also a pastor in a Christian group, and according to him, he prayed to God before coming up with a decision to end his boxing career and focus on politics.
The boxer denied the reports that he is still waiting for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. before he decides to retire. He emphasizes, "I did not say anything like that. Nobody interviewed me about that. I will retire after my April 9 fight.
Pacquiao lost to his greatest rival, Mayweather Jr., in one of the biggest matches in boxing history. The decision was unanimous, but despite this loss, Pacquiao's fans still consider him as one of the best in the industry, with unprecedented eight world titles. In his 20 years in boxing, he has won 57 fights with 38 knockouts.
There is no guarantee that the Manny Pacquiao will win his political feat, but as far as his boxing career is concerned, the professional boxer is expected to step out of the ring for good.
