Daisy Ridley's Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has gained its own followers after the strong yet gentle female figure has superbly flown the Millennium Falcon and was able to use the force without any Jedi training. And now that she is one of the most loved characters in the saga, her fandom is more than unhappy to see her lack of attendance in the Star Wars Monopoly game.
Hasbro has released a statement defending Rey's absence in the game. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the spokesperson of Hasbro explained why the former scavenger is not included as one of the player tokens, saying, "The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie's release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance."
The statement assured Rey's fans that they will be seeing more of their favorite character in other games like Hands Down, Guess Who and chess. The spokesperson announces, "...fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6-inch and 12-inch Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines."
Many people attributed the Rey-less Star Wars game to Hasbro's discrimination against female characters. This is not the only time fans have been disappointed of the absence of the heroine. The #WheresRey hashtag trended last month after the character was not included in a Target exclusive action figure set. The box contained the three new male characters namely Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren, along with a stormtrooper and a First Order pilot. Hasbro was also put on the spot for not including the skilled scavenger in their "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Battle Action Millennium Falcon set, considering Rey has flown the spacecraft in a number of momentous scenes in the film.
