'GTA 5' PS4, Xbox One & PC: First Person Mode Game Play Announced

The makers of "Grand Theft Auto 5" have confirmed that the game will have a first-person mode when released this month.

"We could've put it in the [last-gen version] but we were too busy making the game," said Rob Nelson, Rockstar Games' animation director to IGN.

"It's a very intense, in-your-face experience... Literally. Obviously, we felt like one of the most compelling things you could do to make an experience people have had before feel different was the new first-person mode."

According to the Rockstar Games official, the team wanted gamers to enjoy the game from an alternative perspective.

"You're eye-level, down with the people on the street, and as you walk past them, you see them sort of look at you out of the corner of their eye. All of this stuff existed in the game before - lots of little details," continued Nelson.

The process of creating a first-person game play is quite complicated. While many may think it's only a matter of angles and camera movement, it must be done correctly to maximize the experience.

"You have to change pretty much everything," said Nelson. "I mean, if you want to do it right. We have a very solid third-person animation system, but you don't just put the camera down there and expect to see the guns, aim, and shoot. All those animations are new when you switch to first-person, because it all has to be animated to the camera, to make it feel like a proper first-person experience that I think people would expect. All the timings have to be re-evaluated."

The first person mode will feature controls that respond much like traditional FPS. News.com.au reports that you gamers can choose between assisted aim as well as free aim mode, which will be the way online players will be grouped. Meaning, you will be playing against those who opted for the same settings.

For PC users, game makers have also confirmed, via Polygon, that "the Windows PC release is 4K resolution, a resolution nearly four times as high as the 1080p versions of the game coming to PS4 and Xbox One."

"GTA 5" will be released Nov. 18 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One while the "GTA 5" PC version will hit shelves Jan. 27, 2015.
