'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Moving To New Time Slot, Season 8 Not Possible

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 is moving to a different schedule giving rise to concerns that Season 8 might not be happening.

There have been rumors that the season 7 of the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" is most likely the final season. According to Master Herald, the new schedule of the supernatural drama series may be a signal of its imminent good bye. The show has been moved by The CW from its original Thursday time slot to its new Friday schedule for the last half of season 7.

Besides the change in airing schedule, another sign that "The Vampire Diaries" is will not be renewed season 8 is its low in the ratings that stated way back in season 5 with Nina Dobrev, still, as the main character. The constant low rating though the current season proves that Nina Dobrev's departure has nothing to do with it.

There have also been rumors that Ian Somerhalder is leaving the show to settle down and have kids. On the other hand, wife Nikki Reed is not ready to take a break from her acting just yet and wants to save his role on the CW drama series. Their conflicting interests are taking a toll on the actor thus affecting his attitude towards other "The Vampire Diaries" co-stars, leading to stories that his character might be killed sometime in the future.

Despite all that, the very high social media following of "The Vampire Diaries" remains unparalleled by any other drama series according to Cartermatt. On-screen couple Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) still remains the crowd favorite, even if Elena has already made her exit. The bad news however is that with a current rating of 0.50 in the 18-49 demographic, the show's popularity might not be enough to save the show from getting the axe.

Unless there is going to be a miracle down the road, the new schedule and the rumored marital woes of the main cast might just be sure signs that this season is the last for "The Vampire Diaries."
