'Sherlock' Actor Benedict Cumberbatch Engaged! Who is Sophie Hunter?

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch is officially headed down the aisle to wed fiancee Sophie Hunter.

It's no surprise that the old-fashioned Englishman chose to announce his engagement to fiancee Sophie Hunter through a traditional ad under "Forthcoming Marriages" on the 57th Page of Wednesday's "The Times" newspaper.

Karon Maskill, a rep for Cumberbatch, 38, was "delighted to confirm" the announcement, noted 9News.com.

As millions of hearts break around the world, many are now wondering who managed to steal the heart of the "Sherlock" actor. Here are some quick facts about the future Mrs. Cumberbatch.

  • Award-Winning Director - According to The Independent, the 36-year-old has a few acting credits under her name but she is best known as a theater director. Hunter "received the Samuel Beckett award for writing and directing her play The Terrific Electric in 2007 at the Barbican."
  • Great Family Background - Hunter comes from noble line, much like Cumberbatch. Mail Online reports that "her grandfather is the late General Sir James Michael Gow GCB, Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath." Additionally, "He was equerry to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester in the 1950's and became Commander-in-Chief British Army of the Rhine and Commander Northag, the Northern Army Group of Nato."
  • Lover of Languages - Sophie studied both French and Italian in Oxford University and then continued on at L'école Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Needless to say, Hunter is fluent in French.
  • Talented Musician - The Telegraph noted that aside from directing Operas -- including a 2011 New York production of Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia, and a 2011 African tour of Mozart's The Magic Flute -- Hunter is a pianist and singer. She has a musical career and has recorded a French language album titled, "The Isis Project" in 2005 with Guy Chambers.

It seems Sophie Hunter, much like her husband-to-be, is quite the catch. She's not only beautiful but accomplished, intelligent and quite talented as well.

The pair has been very private with their first public sighting back in June during the French Open. Cumberbatch and Hunter first met when they starred opposite each other in 2009's "Burlesque Fairytales."

Cumberbatch is well-known for his role in "Sherlock" and is already generating Oscar buzz for his portrayal of Alan Turing in his latest project, " The Imitation Game."

Congratulations to the happy couple!
