As previously reported, 50-year-old Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen publicly admitted on the Today Show that he is HIV positive. Talking to Matt Lauer, the actor revealed that he had decided to come forward with his condition in the hopes that extortion from people threatening to expose his secret would come to an end.
Sheen may have discouraged people from blackmailing him after the revelation however, it has sparked curiosity it his secret life. According to Jezebel, the New York Times had dug deeper, further into the controversies that had lead the actor to eventually reveal his health condition. Colin Moynihan writes, "To track the push and pull between Mr. Sheen and the media over several years is to see behind the veil of how celebrity secrets are kept hidden and ultimately disclosed."
The publication reportedly included an example of how Sheen or his lawyer had made efforts, to keep any report about his condition from spreading. Sheen and his lawyer reportedly offer to pay a blog writer to delete posts about Sheen. The amount involved was about $60,000.
In other reports, Sheen was said to have paid even bigger amounts in an effort to keep his secret under wraps. "What people forget is that that's money they're taking from my children," Today quoted Sheen. "I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful. My trust turned to their treason."
In another news, the series of event that lead the actor to publicly admit he is HIV-positive is not believed to have something to do with a National Enquirer story and a gossip item on Radar Online. It is believed Sheen wanted to get ahead of those many blind and unflattering gossip about him, by going public at the Today Show with Matt Lauer.
But the hullaballoo will not stop just yet for Sheen. In a previous report, Charlie's former flame porn star Elizabeth "Sara" Bentley broadcasted a suicide bid on social media following the HIV scare. There could still be more of this drama in the following days. Hopefully, Sheen has prepared himself for anything else that would come his way as a result to this.
