Bjork Buys Out Ex-husband's Share of Brooklyn Heights Penthouse

It’s over for the most popular Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk and her now ex-husband, internationally renowned artist Matthew Barney, as far as real estate is concerned.

The singer reportedly bought Barney out of the penthouse apartment by paying him his share of $1,611,325. According to Curbed New York, the couple previously bought the apartment for $4 million back in 2009.

The penthouse apartment located at 160 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights, which measures at 3,000 square feet, has four bedrooms. Sounds like the singer has more rooms to express herself into writing more hit songs.

According to Brownstoner, Barney bought a landmarked wood frame town house in Fort Greene for about $1.9 million, after the divorce rumors started to spread. Barney then painted the façade blue, which was not allowed since it was landmarked.

The couple split up in 2013 after being together since 2000. They underwent a child custody battle over their child, Isadora, aged 12. Luxury Listings New York City mentioned that Barney sued Björk because she was demanding too much time to spend with their child. The lawsuit called Bjork’s “self-focused mindset . . . flows, in part, from her belief that as Doa’s mother, she has far greater rights than I do as Doa’s father; and, in part, from her insistence that I am solely to blame for the breakdown of our relationship and the end of our intact family."

Bjork rose to fame as the lead singer of alternative rock band “The Sugarcubes” back in 1986. She pursued a solo music career in 1993. She also appeared in some indie films like the highly successful 2000 movie “Dancer in the Dark,” which gained nominations from the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Satellite Awards. She also gained popularity when she wore her infamous Swan dress at the 2001 Academy Awards.
