Home Renovation Tips: Which One Should Matter When Refurbishing Your Kitchen?

Home renovation is a major concerned from time to time, and the area of the house that gets renovated often is the kitchen. Common question that is asked is "which one should matter when refurbishing your kitchen?" Should aesthetic be sacrificed over functionality?

Aside from kitchen appliance, kitchen tools, utensils, countertop, and cabinetry, home owners will have the dilemma over kitchen sink. There are people who are very particular with this fixture and will not settle for the standard and or typical plumbing fixture. There are others who are elaborate and want fashionable trendy designs.

For example in 2015, Curbed reports that farmhouse sink is the trend for kitchen design. And it appears like it will not tone down this 2016.

Yes! Farmhouse sink will still be "in" for kitchen design trend. Home owners will still be crazy about it. But if you will choose this design, would you go for practical or overrated fixture for your kitchen sink?

Report states one honest answer. It quite frankly says that "by default, farmhouse sinks look a little out of place in modern kitchens." But then it is also something that one can overlook given that the farmhouse sink will serve its real purpose. And that is "the ability to store and clean a bunch of plates at a time and better ergonomics are no small considerations."

Niagara This Week also says that in house renovations, there are things that are non-negotiable in order to spare the home owners from pain. While it is understandable that one can be caught up with designs and materials, the person needs to arm himself or herself with this "little piece of renovation psychology," which is "expect that things will not always go as planned." There will always be some glitches that will be encountered along the way, like "material shortages and back orders, building code and permit quirks, or hidden horrors such as mould or infestations that may be discovered upon the demolition of existing structures."

Another tip to bear in mind is to "beat your budget." Materials can be really costly in kitchen renovation. So plan out everything, complete your design plans by costing all the materials and labor before actually doing the remodeling of your kitchen. Based on report, and "as a rule of thumb, it's wise to work soft costs into your total budget by adding on about 20 per cent on top of the hard costs."
