Celebrity Real Estate: Late Actress Betsy von Furstenberg's Central Park West Pad Sold for $7.5M

The penthouse in the Bolivar at 230 Central Park West, which belonged to the late actress Betsy von Furstenberg, has sold for an impressive price of $7.5 million, because it had an asking price of $5 million in just eight short days after it was listed.

The purchase of the penthouse seems to be very nice, though many are quite curious as to what prompted it to have such a speedy and profitable sale. It might have been the unit's 11-foot ceilings, the wood-burning fireplace, or perhaps it was the "one of a kind original skylight" in the kitchen. It can also be said that it was the rather dated furniture or décor choices that would have made such a frenzy, the Observer reported.

"It has the most spectacular Central Park views you could ever imagine," listing agent Vitolo told the Observer. "The apartment is sixteen floors above the park, above the trees," Mr. Vitolo added. The apartment looks like its sitting on a tree house.

The three-bedroom, 3.5-bath, house was put on the market after von Furstenberg passed away last year at the age of 83. The property has been scooped up by Mark Castellano and Gabrielle Muir, who already owns an eight-floor unit in the building. Maybe the couple is eager to move up.

The apartment of the late actress Betsy von Furstenberg, which offers a panoramic view of Central Park, was listed on the market for $5 million on Sep. 10. According to public records, it went into contract just eight days later and closed for $7.5 million.

The Luxury Listings NYC reported that the penthouse is referred as the Bolivar's "crown jewel penthouse," as it features an over-sized living and dining area, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a wood-burning fireplace.

Betsy appeared on Broadway in "Second Threshold" in 1951, "The Chalk Garden" in 1956, "The Paisley Convertible" in 1967, "Avanti!" in 1968, and "The Gingerbread Lady" in 1970. She also appeared on television programs such as "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Have Gun - Will Travel" and "As the World Turns."
