Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey stars in the new film "Interstellar" directed by Christopher Nolan.
Sky News reports that "The Dallas Buyers Club" actor is open to staring in a sequel for the sci-fi drama. There is no confirmation if the film will be a part of a series but McConaughey thinks there could be other story angles that can be explored.
"It's possible, I'd have to go through the due diligence I always do - script, director etc but it's possible," quoted the site of the 45-year-old actor.
McConaughey who has never starred in a frachise explained: "I've tried to do a franchise before - Sahara was meant to be one but we didn't make the number we needed to make to do that - so this could be the one, we'll see."
In the film, Matthew's character -- Cooper -- is humanity's last hope of saving itself from extinction. In a near-future world dealing with an agricultural crisis, McConaughey travels beyond our solar system through a wormhole to search for another planet that can support life.
The publication notes that this is a project the "Mud" actor is very excited about and something audience want to see.
"I don't need to come out and sell this film. There's a huge anticipation for it, I've seen it and the goods are there," admitted the Matthew.
McConaughey isn't the only one willing to explore a second run at the film. Co-star Anne Hathaway says she's more than willing to work with Nolan again.
The "Dark Knight" star said: "He's the best that humanity can be, he's so intelligent, he dreams big and put himself on the line creating the things he wants to see exist."
"On top of that he's a husband and a father and he's great at those two things too," she continued.
In interview with MTV, both stars answered the question on whether or not there would be a sequel.
They admit they haven't given much thought to what a sequel would be about. Hathaway, 31, emphasized caution in jumping the gun and focus on being "here and the now." She explains how she'd like to see most of her films have sequels that will allow her to spend more time with the characters but to date, there are no specific plans yet.
"Interstellar" is now showing in cinemas and according to Deadline, the film is expected to rake in over $50 million for its debut 3-day weekend.
The film is generating mixed reviews but according to an article by the New York Post, there are a number of advantages that the film has over other galactic film "Gravity" that managed to seven Oscars last year. The publication sites the movie's bigger vision, solid cast line-up, and length may play to it advantage.
