Former NFL kicker Josh Brown Lines up a Career in Commercial Real Estate

Josh Brown, a professional football player, will be joining industrial brokers in Jones Lang Lasalle, a real estate company.

According to The Wall Street Journal when he was not kicking goals in the field, Brown was studying hard and practicing for his internship for a brokerage career with JLL which started last year. The Giants kicker made an extraordinary performance as an intern and has received an offer for a full-time gig.

While being a pro football player can be a tough launching pad for a new career, Brown has found a way to make his remaining time in the NFL and a budding real estate employment work to his advantage. Instead of keeping a low profile, he tries to subtly tell his prospects that he is an active major league football pro. He introduces himself as a newcomer in real estate who will soon be ending a long career in another field. When his clients ask about what he did, he tells them that he played for the Giants and Seahawks. Brown says, "I make every effort to make sure it gets drawn out because it only works to my advantage. Why wouldn't I? ... I can leverage my career here to some business owner who, maybe I was his fantasy football kicker."

In a report by BizJournals, the Giants are offering active players on their rosters a program that will guide them in finding out what they wanted to do next when their playing days come to an end. Players who avail of this support system are assessed based on their goals and personalities. Brown admits that the prospect of doing commercial real estate work came to him through the help of Roger Staubach, a legendary football player who is also chairman of the board of JLL. Brown said of the opportunity, "I love the competitive nature of it. I love the ideal of the chase."
