Home Design Tips 2016: Big Trends To Try This Year

Home design trends come and go. Every year, there is always something new to try. If you want to update your decor, try this year's biggest design trends. They also come in handy if you plan to sell your home. With an up-to-date home design, you can easily jump up your asking price.

1. Pantone Color of the Year
Year after year, Pantone announces their choice color of the year that influences not only home design trends but also fashion and other design areas. For 2016, Pantone chose two colors, rose quartz and serenity. Rose quartz is a soft shade of pink while serenity is also a light shade of blue. Use them in your home and create a relaxing environment for you and your family.

2. Florals
Florals are holding strong this year but they are growing in size. Huge blooms that come in vibrant colors and bold patterns are now in style. Use them on throw pillows, sheets, duvet covers or if you want to make a major change, opt for floral-patterned wallpapers. Even better, look for floral patterns that come in Pantone's colors of the year for a double-dose of style.

3. Black and Blue
Aside from rose quarts and serenity, dramatic colors are also in trend this 2016. Black walls make a statement and are perfect for living and dining rooms. However, if you are not much of a risk-taker, opt for blue walls coupled with white furniture and accents.

4. Vintage
Ironically, the further we advance into the future, the more vintage pieces make a comeback. But take note, going all vintage is not trendy this year. Mixing and matching vintage furniture with modern ones is the current trend. For instance, if you have a modern sofa set in your living room, add a vintage piece like an old trunk to serve as a coffee table. You can also hang vintage maps on the walls.
