The El Nino rains is causing not only massive flooding but also home damages. Here are ways on how one can protect houses from this terrible drought.
Last week, ABC News reported that the El Nino rains are causing trouble in the residents of California. It was reported that the stormsfor the past few days have left some of the homes in the state unlivable. There were reportedly mud melting off the hills, and it is moving its way to the major highways. Many homeowners need to protect their houses from the consequences of what seems to be an unending amount of rains for several days. Los Angeles Times has listed some of the ways one can protect their home from the terrifying drought.
In an interview with landscape architect and USC adjunct professor Robert Perry, he suggested that people should be able to assess the problem areas of their homes so they would know what to work on. He said that people should look into the areas where water is collected because this could possibly create problems. He added that it is important to make sure that the site can be easily drained once its limit is reached. This also means directing water elsewhere by placing sandbags or digging shallow trenches in order for the water to run to a desirable site.
For decomposed granite which is turning into mud, the solution is to place a barrier material like sandbags or rolled straw wattle to direct its flow to an established drainage or an open bed. Lastly, experts suggest that to keep the house safe from the hard rains, sandbags which are enough to create at least two layers of barrier is needed to keep the water flow away from the house.
