Starting the year with a clean slate can calm the mind. Keeping the cluttered areas organized in one's home at the start of the year can go a long way. Having a messy room creates a huge impact and can sometimes affect an individual's well-being and productivity. Though keeping things tidy may work wonders but there are just some areas that are awfully hard to clean and organize.
If one is so used with seeing one or two areas in their homes that are seldom untidy, keeping things neat can be extra work. It may take a while to have things decluttered and organized which makes it very important to train your mind to make decluttering a habit. Constantly remind yourself and push yourself to clean and at least tidy even the slightest clutter.
It is important to identify the most cluttered area in your home [usually the stockroom or the kitchen] and sell out extra time to clear out and organize the specific room, or even just a desk. Let go of the things that are no longer being used. Throwing them out or at least sell them on a garage sale. Make it a habit not to hoard things as they would usually end up in a pile adding more clutter.
Try to install drawers and built in cabinets to make organization easier. As per Lauren Stein, who is an award winning interior decorator, drawers and containers with lids can be of great help when it comes to keeping things neat and tidy.
"Easy access drawers, containers with lids, and labels are an organized person's best friends, then create activity zones for each, with appropriate storage for the things you use most. Problems often arise when activities take place in areas that you weren't expecting them to, like the kids brushing their teeth in the downstairs powder room instead of the upstairs bathroom. Rather than trying to conform your family's habits to your ideal organization, reform your organization to work with your family's habits. It will be much easier for everyone to clean up and put things away."
