Real Estate News: Top 3 US Real Estate Tycoons Who Own Sports Teams

A dozen of US real estate tycoons have been named as owners of sports teams. Here are the top 3 real estate mogul who have a good idea of spending their wealth aside from their real estate empire.

National Real Estate Investor mentions Tom Gaglardi first on the list of real estate tycoons who own Pro Teams. Gaglardi owns at the same time the governor of Dallas Stars. He is also the president of Northland Properties Corp. It is "a family- owned hospitality company in Canada with head offices located in Vancouver, British Columbia."

Second in line, Stan Kroenke who is the founder of Kroenke Group and began his real estate business in 1983. His track record in this industry includes the development of shopping centers and apartment buildings. In 1991, he established THF Realty together with Michael Staenberg. It is a retail real estate firm. Kroenke's professional sports teams portfolio includes NFL's St. Louis Rams. His family also owns four Colorado sports teams, namely "the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids and National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth."

Ted Lerner is the third real estate mogul who owns Pro Teams. Lerner is "the founder of the real estate company Lerner Enterprises." This company has a diverse portfolio in terms of real estate projects. It ranges from commercial and retail space, private homes and apartment units. Lerner is considered as "the largest private landowner in Washington D.C. and also owns Chelsea Piers in New York City."

Report says that "the Lerner family took over ownership of Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals franchise" in 2006. Aside from owning a pro team, "the family is also a partner in Monumental Sports & Entertainment." In a separate report of Forbes, it says that "Lerner is worth $5.5 billion, up 22%, and ranks No. 86 overall."
