Home Design Tips: Organizational Tricks for Your Pantry

For most homeowners, trying to keep homes organized is an ongoing challenge. One part of the home which would greatly benefit from having a place for everything would be the kitchen pantry. Here are some home design tips and organizational tricks to help keep the pantry an orderly and clean spot in the home.

A report by House Beautiful compiled several organizational tips that can maximize a pantry's space. One would be to invest in clear containers with tight lids that can help keep the mice away from food items such as cereal boxes or snacks. Transferring these food items to clear storage containers provides a clear view of the container's contents and also helps eliminate the need to rummage through numerous cardboard boxes in a pantry cabinet.

To utilize tight corners and provide easy access to canned goods or condiment bottles on the pantry shelf, homeowners could add a lazy Susan. Its spinning turntable piece will help ensure that food items located at the very back of the shelf won't be forgotten.

Another pantry organizational tip is to use small boxes or baskets with labels on them. Similar food products can be stored in one box or basket such as tomato sauces in one container and canned soup items for the other. Meanwhile, in looking for clear containers to store food items, it is best to use matching tall and skinny containers. This way, the pantry shelf will look more organized and you can maximize the available space.

One snack item that may be difficult to store are the plastic packs containing chips. The same report advises using skirt hangers which can be hung on wire shelves. It can also help keep opened bags from going stale. However, for those who enjoy a little DIY project (do-it-yourself), a chip rack can also be created where the edges of the plastic packs can be clipped on.

Other home design tips for the pantry also includes hanging pots on a peg board, using slim baskets to store small spice bottles on narrow spaces inside the pantry cabinet, hanging a shoe organizer inside the pantry door to add more space and using a pull-out type drawer that provides easy access to food items.

Keeping a house organized and having a place for everything helps keep the kitchen and the home running smoothly. An organizational tip that Kasandra Pittman, owner of Peace in The Details, shared in a report by Tulsa World, was to maintain a label system and group similar things together.

"Group like items together that is one of my main tips. This helps you get a true sense of what you have," Pittman stated.
