British actress Jane Horrocks dishes how much she loves traveling in Istria, Croatia. Istria which is formerly called Histria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. Croatia is now one of the hottest destinations of British travelers.
According to Daily Mail, instead of the usual tourist destination the Dalmatian Coast, Jane and her companions opted to go to the northern part of the country, Istria. They were able to take the regular flight from the U.K. to the regional capital, Pula.
As they landed, they were able to see the Italian influence in the place. In Pula, a lot of tourists get to experience the Italian feel because of the well-preserved Roman amphitheater. Given the 450 years Venetian occupation it is expected that its influence will really be strong. Venice is just three hours away through a high speed ferry.
Jane stayed in a villa called Melissa in the town of Sveti Lovrec which is just a 40-minute drive north of Pula. The villa has a swimming pool and a very beautiful garden that gives a perfect view. Sveti Lovrec is a silent and well-preserved medieval town. There were only a couple of small supermarkets, bars and one of the best pizza place and these are located closer to the main road.
There are a lot of interesting places to visit such as the Limski Kanal, an inland which is a few miles south of Sveti Lovrec. Along the way, Jane and her partner Nick were able to drive in Koversada. It is one of the first and biggest nudist colonies in Europe.
They had a boat ride and cruised all day in the Limski Kanal. Before they get to enter the Kanal, the boat traveled further going to a beautiful town called Rovinj. The boat then dropped them off to check on the pirate's cave which was said to be used by Captain Morgan. It is currently a small bar. They enjoyed a more fascinating view of the Kanal.
Jane shared that she now understands what they say that "Istria is the new Tuscany." It is because once you leave the coast and drive to the inland you experience a whole new feeling.
