Designing Your House The 2016 Way

What changes have we had so far this 2016? Do we have a new haircut, a new job, new goals, or new life? We have probably desired to make as many changes as we want this year, including our house.

Unless we are financially prepared, it would not be practical to sell our house and buy a new one just because it's a new year. If want to have something new in your house, why not consider redesigning it?

Here's how you can design your house the 2016 way:

Give way to chandeliers

It's extra cute to make the interior of your house look like a necklace with pretty pendants a.k.a. chandeliers. It will surely add elegance in your living room. Some houses have chandeliers in their dining area, at the door entrance, or in the hallway, and if you belong to the first class, you will probably have chandeliers in every corner of your house. Yet, do not accessorize your home too much with chandeliers that the only chandelier you haven't hung in your elite house is that one in the song by Sia, unless you want to swing from the chandelier, yes, from the chandelier!

House Beautiful contains a list of chandeliers you can choose from. You can try the paloma lantern, link porcelain quad light, goodman pendant, or clover square lantern, among others.

Return the desks

Gone are the days of working with your laptop in your bed. Grab the desks back into your study room or in a small space of your house conducive for studying or working. You can actually create a make-shift office inside your house with your desk and chair. You can choose the glass desk or just the wooden one. If you don't like the glassy one, then don't forget to paint it your wooden desk with black or white to make it more professional. Your personalized office is good for you in case you want to do some work-from-home freelancing jobs.

Go retro

It's okay to bring back the old memories into your abode this 2016. In retrospect, let your living room take part. You can place antique materials like old photos, old paintings, or old books to give the room a classic touch. HGTV Canada suggests that an old-trunk can be a coffee table and antique maps hung on the walls would create a lot of intrigue to your visitors. Also, you can mix the old materials with a few modern stuff to make it a bit classy. Just make sure these modern stuff have neutral colors like the shades of brown, black, and other earth colors to retain the vintage effect. No, you won't feel old in getting retro, instead, you feel renewed. HGTV Canada points out that everything old is new again and with old things, mixing and matching fit in.
