How To Save Money at the Supermarket With A Grocery Price Book

In this day and age, spending your money wisely on goods is a must. How can you save money at the supermarket using the so-called grocery price book?

A grocery price book will help you save money by helping you keep track of the price of certain goods in different stores. A study conducted by Kantar on six grocery chains in 2014 revealed that each of the chains had better deals on certain products than the others, Money Crashers reported.

This means that in order to get the maximum savings out of groceries, one should shop at multiple stores. The outlet cited an example given on the said research: a jar of peanut butter at Walmart costs $1.82 while the same one is $2.29 at Aldi; a loaf of bread, however, costs $1.38 at Walmart and $0.89 at Aldi.

Given these examples, one can save more by purchasing the peanut butter at Walmart and getting a loaf of bread at Aldi. Some people, however, may find it hard to keep track of which store offers the best price of each item.

This is where the price book comes in. A grocery price book contains a list of products, including the store name, brand name, price, size and unit price. This price book will help eliminate the confusion of trying to remember which store had great deals for your favorite peanut butter and which store had the best price for your favorite brand of coffee grounds.

It may also guide you into knowing whether a sale at another store is lower than the best price you have listed in your price book. If a sale of peanut butter at Grocery B costs $1.91 and you look at your price book and see that the best price for the same peanut butter is at $1.78, then you know that the sale isn't really the best deal for you.

There are several methods of creating your grocery price book. While one can easily stick to the usual pen and paper method, there are several templates available online, including the one provided by Organized Home.

There are also several apps available for those who wish to maximize the use of their smartphones, including the ValueTracker app for iOS users and the Sharky Shopping for Android phone users.
