A former Boy Scout Camp in Salem, Connecticut that was turned into an all-year-round vacation home is now on the market for $3.75 million. Mrs. Donna Adelstein and her late husband, Stanley Adelstein, a co-founder of Bob's Discount Furniture, acquired the property on Gardner Lake in 2002 for about $1 million.
The 32-acre Boy Scout camp located at 45 Forest Dr is used by the family as a place to host for get-togethers and as a vacation spot. The 62-year-old Mrs. Adelstein has always wanted to live on the lake. A bunkhouse, a cottage, and a mess hall were still present when they moved there. The family built a waterfront house out of the former Boy Scout Camp in 2007, and according to The Wall Street Journal, the couple spent nearly $10 million to construct their dream vacation home.
"The house took on a whole life of its own," she said. Mrs. Adelstein also claimed that the former Boy Scout Camp became the couple's sanctuary and a place to hang out with their six children and their grandchildren. "This is a picturesque place to be whether it's winter or summer."
The Adirondack-style vacation home has four bedrooms and three and a half baths. It also boasts an indoor pool, private sandy beach, hiking trails, a floating dock, decks, stunning stone features, lush green lawns, and landscaping. It features a lakefront direct waterfront, Trulia reports.
An original stone fireplace engraved with the Boy Scout motto is also a unique feature of the vacation spot. Other features of the former Boy Scout Camp include movie theater, wine cellar, game room, billiard room, kitchen and refreshment bar.
For recreation, the former Boy Scout Camp also features a pool complex featuring solid beam trusses. The home also highlights a freeform heated 1400-square-foot gunite pool with attached spa and kiddie pool.
