London Homeowners Must Protect Homes from the Arctic Freeze

The "big freeze" is impending as the nation is still trying to recover from December floods that brought havoc to so many homes amounting to over £1 billion.

According to Express, many are still dealing with the damages from the December catastrophe, cleaning up after storms Desmond, Eva and Frank destroyed many homes. Insurance properties have reported that each of the 10,000 affected homes have claims up to £50,000 in damages. Furthermore, there are still 3,000 families living in temporary shelter while their homes are still under repair. Based on a report released by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) total damages have reached £1.3 billion.

Now, homeowners and motorists are advised to prepare for temperatures below zero. Analysts and experts from Insurance providers warn that homeowners have less insurance coverage to protect them from further damage from future winter storms. Furthermore, research from SunLife shows that there are possibly as many as 10 million homes that are uninsured. Homeowners and policy holders are advised to review their coverage thoroughly, according to Express.

In another news, ‎General Insurance Director at AXA SunLife Simon Stanney advises that it helps to keep your home warm by having the heater on regularly every day. He said, "Reduce the risk of pipes freezing or bursting by ensuring all your water pipes and any water tanks are well insulated." He adds, "Letting your home get too cold and then suddenly putting the heating on is not good for your home."

One of the basic things that can be done as part of protecting the home from damages as the artic freeze sweeps is to know the location of stopcock, which according to Express UK is usually found under the kitchen sink. This little valve turns off your water system in the event of an emergency so avoid flooding, and consequently damages, in your house.
