Marriott Hotels to Say Goodbye to Desks in Their Hotel Rooms? Technology Enhancements to be Implemented

Business travelers will have to prepare themselves from the disappearance of desks inside Marriott Hotels this year, if the recent reports are true. Marriott is reportedly doing away with the desks to adapt to the growing number of fascination of millennials, their leading clients base, with mobile devices and gadgets.

Travel Pulse reports that desks will be removed as one of the features inside the hotel rooms of Marriott's chain of accommodations. Marriott's International flagships include a total of 500 properties in more than four dozen countries, and all of them will allegedly be removing desks inside their hotel rooms. However, Marriott's spokeswoman debunked the myth and instead cited the brand's aim in improving technology in their hotels this year.

According to Marriott International senior director for consumer public relations, Nina Herrera-Davila, the change is technology-driven. Since millennials are leaning into smaller technological devices like mobile phones and tablets, the demands for desks inside hotel rooms becomes less of a necessity.

Besides improving technology and adapting changes inside hotel rooms, Marriott's bathrooms are also being paid attention to this year and are being revamped to cater to the needs and current trends guests look forward to when staying in hotels. However, the hotel brand will reportedly take a few more years before desks are completely gone from their list of features in their hotel rooms.

Meanwhile, Virtual Tourist also mentioned that Marriott is indeed redesigning their hotel rooms which include removal of desks. With a growing number of millennials preferring to connect to the Internet via a mobile phone or iPad and with their laptops on their lap or on their hotel beds, the demand for desks inside hotel rooms reportedly becomes lower. Some customers, on the other hand, claim that the removal of desks infuriates them since they still see it as a necessity whenever they are travelling for work.
