Aside from aesthetics, your bedroom should be your haven of comfort after a long day of work or play. Top home designers share some tips on how to keep your bedroom your refuge for relaxation.
The clutter on your bedside table has to go, because it makes you think of what you need to accomplish the next day. Brad Ford shares, "It's a forever reminder of things you need to do, take care of, and it's not relaxing at all." Waking up next to a messy bedside table will disorient you, and looking at it before you sleep at night could prevent you from having a deep sleep, because it gives you the feeling that you have a lot to deal with in the morning.
If you do not want outside noise to bother you as you catch some much needed sleep, upholstering a wall behind your bed could be the trick, says Jeff Andrews. It also doubles as a soft surface which you could lean back on while you are enjoying your night reading.
Andrews adds that if you do other stuff inside your bedroom like reading, using your laptop or watching TV, then you should consider creating a separate seating area. Using your bed solely for resting and sleeping would signal your brain that it is time for your body to relax and slow down.
Your choice of bed linens contributes to how comfortable you would be able to rest on your bed. Elaine Griffin suggests that you buy cotton beddings as these bring a cool environment perfect for slumber. One awesome hack to make your linens more comfy is to press and starch them.
Lastly, give yourself the opportunity to come home to a made bed by making a habit of fixing your beddings right after you wake up. Jon Call wonderfully states how important your place of slumber is: Your bed is your refuge. You can't control the world, but you can control your bedroom."
