The first ever vacation resort run entirely by solar power has sprung in the tropical haven, Maldives. Finolhu Villas by Club Med was built by Yuji Yamazaki Architecture PLLC, a firm based in New York, together with Design 2000, a local team of architects. The two worked with another firm, T&D Water Technologies, which is an Italian engineering group.
Clubmed's website tags their resort as the Eco Nature Villas. This vacation spot is located at the preserved island of Gasfinolhu on Indian Ocean. The corporation proudly claims that their lodging is perfect for nature lovers because they respect all norms for eco construction. Finolhu goes full on green, as solar power runs the whole island, providing 100% of its energy requirements. The teams who worked on the design of the resort found a way to incorporate the solar roofs and panels to its architecture, without compromising its aesthetics. The result is a sophisticated collection of structures that provide balance between modern luxury and love for the environment.
In the island, there are solar powered cabanas available for guests' use. There are villas on the shore, but the ones standing on stilts over the water are more sought after. Each private villa has its own terrace and private pool.
Among the resorts amenities is their huge swimming pool conveniently surrounded by their welcome lounge, gourmet restaurant, and bar. They also have several fitness areas like tennis courts, a gym, and their Ila Spa.
Aside from swimming and snorkeling, there are a wide range of activities available at the resort. There are romantic night offerings like watching movies under the stars, and stargazing. You may also sign up for educational activities like cooking lessons and demonstration. Also, since the resort have the passion to take care of the environment, they also offer a marine life talk wherein their scuba diving team shares their knowledge of Maldives' underwater resources.
